Microwave Ablation (EVMWA) appears to be another extremely safe and effective technique for the treatment of varicose veins. EVMWA uses dielectric hysteresis to produce direct volume heating of tissue. The microwave probe is more flexible than laser fiber, and it can be smoothly inserted into the vessel and reach the SFJ without the help of a catheter and guidewire. The microwave generator can produce much higher energy than that of a laser generator. Due to the higher energy provided by the microwave, the closure rate after EVMWA of the veins is significantly higher than that due to laser or RFA. The microwave energy is delivered in a circumferential manner and therefore the pain during the procedure is very less.
Microwave Ablation is a form of thermal ablation used in interventional radiology. MWA uses electromagnetic waves in the microwave energy spectrum (300 MHz to 300 GHz) to produce tissue-heating effects. These microwaves create heat around the needle, which heat and destroy the cancer cells. Heat closes small blood vessels and lessens the risk of bleeding. The dead tumor cells are gradually replaced by scar tissue.
Microwave Ablation (MWA) is a minimally invasive technique that has been used to treat benign and malignant tumors of the LIVER, LUNG ,KIDNEY ,BONE ,BREAST AND BENIGN THYROID NODULES. MWA is based on thermal injury secondary to the heat generated from the rotation of water molecules and has several advantages in tumor ablation.
Dr. Shoaib Padaria has been privileged to have performed the first few cases of Microwave Laser ablation in the country. The results have been very satisfying. However, since this is a newer technique, more experience is needed about long term results, before we offer it as a regular option to our patients.
