Varicose Veins India

Why choose Laser treatment over Conventional Surgery for Varicose Veins?

Varicose Veins affect more than 10 million Indians every year. And that is indeed a very high number. But do patients really have to go through conventional surgical treatment? Not anymore. With Advanced Laser Technology, treatment is completed within an hour, and most patients are discharged within a day. Laser therapies use focused lights which generate very localized heat energy, which is used to close the leaking Varicose veins, without damaging any other surrounding structures. This heat energy causes damage to the inner lining of the leaking vein, and a scar forms, leading to the permanent closure of the vein. The leakage stops immediately. Over the next few months, the body removes the dead vein, and it can no longer be seen even by sonography examination.

Surface laser treatment

Surface laser vein treatment is done on the outside of your skin. It can be used to treat spider veins and tiny Varicose Veins which are just under the skin’s surface. However usually, more than one laser session is needed. Surface laser treatment can be combined with micro sclerotherapy methods to treat spider veins, mainly for cosmetic purposes.

Endovenous Laser Treatment

This method is mainly used to treat larger Varicose Veins in the legs. Under sonography guidance, a needle is placed into the vein (just like when collecting blood for blood tests). Through this needle, a small wire is passed followed by a small plastic tube into the vein. Through this plastic tube (called a sheath) a thin laser fiber is passed into the vein. While doing this, the doctor watches the vein on an ultrasound screen. The tip of the laser fiber is accurately placed in the proper position, and the local anesthetic solution is given around this area with a thin needle.

The laser energy is then delivered into the vein, causing a complete closure of the leaking vein. Once completed, both the laser fiber and sheath are removed from the vein, leaving a small puncture mark (similar to after blood collection). A compression stocking is placed on the treated leg, the patient gets up from the table and starts walking immediately.   Laser is less painful than vein ligation and stripping, and it has a shorter recovery time. Only local anesthesia or a light sedative is needed for laser treatment. Most patients can resume their normal duties from the same day or the next day. For more details or information on Varicose Vein, visit our website www.varicose.in or get in touch with Dr. Shoaib F. What happens after Laser Therapy?

Usually, there is no rest required after Laser treatment for Varicose Veins. In fact, patients are encouraged to walk as much as possible after treatment. Except for weight lifting, there are no restrictions on activity for treated patients. However, most patients have been prescribed a course of antibiotics and mild pain medications for a week, to prevent any infections, and also to make patients comfortable. It is essential to wear compression stockings on the treated leg daily from morning to evening for at least a month after treatment. This helps to compress the treated veins and also hastens to heal. Most patients do not need to wear stockings after one month.
